The games continue to come thick and fast as Bury head to Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup, but the Shakers are relishing the challenge.
Dave McNabb’s side have already overcome opposition from a higher division, beating Congleton Town, Avro and Garforth Town in the previous rounds.
It has been another demanding week, with the last-gasp draw against FC Isle of Man followed by a professional victory at Glossop North End.
McNabb admitted it has been a “tough slog” at times due to the hectic fixture list, but the Shakers are ready to give their all again this weekend.
“Everyone loves playing in the FA Cup,” said goalkeeping coach Sam Ashton. “If you speak to any lad who has played non-league football, the chance to play against a big side is really good.
“It is a free hit for us, we are a team who are below Blyth. We have to do some more travelling and it will be an early start, but I see it as a test for us.
“Can we test ourselves against good teams in the league above? Blyth is hard place to go and win a game of football so we will have to be on our game.”
Bryan Ly, Ruben Jerome, Josh Gregory and Iyrwah Gooden all got on the scoresheet in midweek as Bury maintained their strong start to the campaign.
“It is always a tough place to come, especially after the weekend we had travelling,” Ashton added.
“Lads getting up at five in the morning, playing the game, travelling back the day after and going into work on Monday,
“It took us a little while to get used to the pitch and how they were playing but after 20 minutes, I think we settled and started to play some lovely football.”
The Shakers made three changes on Tuesday night, with Gaz Peet, Lewis Earl and Alex Cherera coming into the side.
We have a strong squad,” said Ashton. “After the Isle of Man game, it was a tough day for us and 1-0 down going into the last minute, the lads probably put a bit more into it.
“Lads can come in and fit in really well, I think it showed that we can mix it up.
“Listening to the gaffer and Aidan (Bowe), I think Bobby Carroll will be fine for the weekend. He has carried a little knock.
“He has played a lot of games in a short space of time and so have a lot of them have. Lewis has played a lot, he didn’t play last season. Josh came in and did really well.”
