AARON Collins is positive that a result against Huddersfield Town this weekend will bring about a much brighter outlook at Wanderers.

Sitting 18th in the early league table with just one win in four, Bolton could desperately do with a morale boost after a difficult start.

Collins admits performances have not yet hit the expected standard, and that a lack of goals scored and chances created are the chief reasons behind the frustration.

But the Welshman is also confident that the Whites’ prospects will change for the better and that they can do so in the space of just 90 minutes.

“It has been tough,” he said of Bolton’s early form. We know we haven’t been good enough over the last four games, we have played some good football, but I came out of it thinking we haven’t really created enough chances. The goals haven’t been there yet.

“But we beat Huddersfield, and we feel like we can restart.

“There is no point dwelling on the negatives at the minute, you can work on those in training. At the same time if you are an attacker or a striker you want goals, so we know that has got to be the aim for us. We know we have got to be better.”

Collins scored his first goal of the season in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy win at Barrow last Tuesday, team-mates John McAtee and Kyle Dempsey also opening their account.

Wanderers’ only goals in the league so far came on the opening day at Leyton Orient, scored by Dion Charles and Victor Adeboyejo, but now the Welshman hopes a pedigree attacking line can now all start firing.

“Everyone knows we have got talent at the top end of the pitch,” he said. “And I think once the goals start coming in the league there won’t be an issue, there will only be positives.

“But as strikers we know our job is to provide goals and assists. That’s why we are in the team.

“I’ve got one now, so have a couple of the other lads, and as a striker, no matter what game it is in, a goal is a goal. You want to get as many as you can through the season and get that tally up.

“Hopefully now we have got one under our belt you can see more of what we are about moving forward.”

Wanderers announced earlier this week that more than 20,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game, which has further added to the sense of occasion.

After the letdown against Exeter Collins knows the Whites owe their fans a performance, and with Huddersfield likely to be among the promotion contenders this season, a win could come in very handy.

“The Exeter game was frustrating for all parties, we have got to be better than that,” he said. “Going into Huddersfield now hopefully everyone will be refreshed after the break and we can put a good performance in, hopefully beat them, and then start to climb the table.

“These days you don’t often get a full week of training and whenever you do it makes a difference. We need to work on what has worked, what hasn’t worked over the first four games and then go into the Huddersfield game to kickstart the season and stop what has been going on the last few games.”
