Former Wanderer Josh Emmanuel has joined League Two side Doncaster Rovers on a short-term deal.

The 27-year-old full-back had been without a club since his release by Carlisle United at the end of last season.

Emmanuel will now play alongside Brandon Fleming, another ex-Bolton man, at the Eco-Power Stadium.

“I’m really excited to get going,” he told the club site. “I was with the gaffer (Grant McCann) at Hull and I’m grateful for the opportunity that he and Cliffy (Cliff Byrne) have given me by bringing me in.

“You can’t beat training with the lads again and I’ve really enjoyed it. I knew a few of the lads before I came in and I’ve settled in really well.”

Emmanuel made 31 appearances for the Whites in 2019/20 before the campaign was cut short by the pandemic.

He also had spells with Hull and Grimsby before heading to Carlisle, where he played 14 times last term as the Cumbrians were relegated from League One.

McCann added: “I’m delighted that Josh has joined us on a short term contract. He has been training with us for a week.

“He is someone I know well and I know exactly what he is capable of. He’s in a really good condition and we have done numerous tests with him to see where’s at physically, he’s in a good place.

“He adds competition to the defensive area. He’s a very good character, has been part of successful teams and loves to win.

“He has very good attributes with his pace, power and is strong in one-v-one duels - both for and against - so he ticks a lot of boxes in what we like.”

Doncaster currently sit top of League Two after taking 12 out of a possible 15 points from their opening five games. The Yorkshire club are back in action on Thursday night when they head to Harrogate.
