Stockport Andy Mangan is reportedly set to make a shock move to European giants Real Madrid as part Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff.
Mangan is currently working as an assistant coach at Edgeley Park as the Hatters aim to build on last season’s promotion from League Two.
The 38-year-old has a close relationship with Ancelotti’s son, Davide, who is among the coaching staff at Madrid.
Mangan made more than 300 appearances during his playing career, including a stint at Bury during the 2007/08 campaign. He also had spells with Fleetwood, Tranmere and Wrexham among others.
The former striker began his coaching career at Fleetwood in 2019 before heading to Bristol Rovers a couple of years later to continue working with Joey Barton.
Mangan had a brief spell as caretaker manager at the Memorial Stadium before heading to Stockport, where he has helped the Hatters make a strong start to life in the third tier.
Dave Challinor’s side have taken 10 out of a possible 12 points so far, including wins against Cambridge, Blackpool and Bristol Rovers.
Ancelotti is reportedly looking to freshen up the coaching set-up at the Santiago Bernabeu three years on from his return to the club.
Madrid finished top of La Liga last season, with a 10-point cushion above second-place Barcelona.
They also lifted the Champions League following a 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley.
Ancelotti’s men, who have taken eight points from their opening four La Liga fixtures this term, are back in action next weekend when they head to Ral Sociedad.
