Wanderers midfielders Josh Sheehan and George Thomason have been shortlisted for the 2024 North West Football Awards.

Welsh international Sheehan is in the running for the League One Player of the Season prize after an impressive 2023/24 campaign.

The 29-year-old managed 12 assists in the league as the Whites reached the play-off final – a total only Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Harrison Burrows and Karamoko Dembele could better.

The former Newport man’s consistent performances in the middle of the pitch also saw him named in the PFA Team of the Year alongside skipper Ricardo Santos.

Sheehan now faces competition from Carlisle’s Jon Mellish, Morecambe’s Brendan Wiredu and Wigan’s Sam Tickle for the award, which was claimed by Dion Charles last year.

Meanwhile, Thomason is up for the Rising Star prize. Although he is an established member of Ian Evatt’s squad, the former Longridge man still qualifies at 23 years of age.

Thomason was a key figure for Wanderers last term, racking up more than 50 appearances in all competitions.

The initial shortlist, which includes the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jarell Quansah, will be whittled down following a fan vote.

The annual event takes place at Emirates Old Trafford on Monday, November 25 and supporters can place their votes by clicking HERE. Voting closes at 5pm on Friday, October 4.

There will be a number of other Awards handed out on the night to recognise the standout performers from the region in both the men's and women's games.

An official statement read: “The NWFA 2024 will see awards presented to those who have achieved footballing excellence, both on and off the pitch from grassroots level through to our footballing elite.

"We are proud to be able to celebrate the immense hotbed of talent that exists in both the women’s and men’s games across our region.”
