Daisy Hill will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they host Route One Rovers at the Plumb Factory Stadium in the North West Counties League First Division North tomorrow (3pm).
Last Saturday’s disappointing defeat at Ashton Athletic came as a blow after recent good performances, and Daisy manager Lee Hill is looking for a reaction from his players in a game which is the centrepiece of a Community Day at the club, with free entry for spectators.
“Last Saturday we had a bad day at the office and while you can get away with maybe one or two having an off day, when you have five or six you have a problem, and at this level that will make a difference,” said Hill.
“During the week we have done some analysis and some reflection on the game, and if some of the early chances we created had gone in, then that would have made it a different game.
“We have had some high-intensity training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, and hopefully the lads have learned we need to keep that level going into games, and that will show on Saturday.”
Opponents Route One Rovers have had a slow start to the season and sit third from bottom after being promotion contenders last season, but Hill is, nonetheless, wary of the challenge his team will face.
“Route One Rovers are a bit of a different entity this season, and they have lost their focal point with the leading scorer from last season having left in the summer, but they have still been scoring goals,” Hill observed.
“We have not had a chance to watch them yet, so they are a bit of an unknown quantity for us.
“I think league positions for teams at this stage of the season is irrelevant, and it’s all about what we do on the day.
“The lads don’t need any extra motivation as they know they let themselves down last Saturday,
“They are raring to go and to put last Saturday right, and hopefully we can take some points in the next couple of weeks and start climbing the league.
“The club are holding a Community Day with free entry for everyone, so if we can get a few extra people down on Saturday to back us, that will be great.”
