The transfer window might now be closed but there are still a number of interesting free agent options for clubs looking to bolster their squads.

Goalkeepers

Jamal Blackman

Yet to find a new club after spending last season at Burton, making eight appearances in all competitions. Previously had spells with Exeter, Huddersfield and Rotherham among others.

Marko Marosi

Departed Shrewsbury at the end of last term following a three-year stay in Shropshire. Also played for Coventry and Doncaster earlier in his career.

Wayne Hennessey

Has a wealth of Premier League experience and has also played plenty of international football for Wales. Left Nottingham Forest at the end of last season and also had spells at Burnley and Crystal Palace in recent years.

Defenders

Daniel Ayala

Exited Rotherham by mutual consent in March while he was recovering from a long-term injury, having played seven times for the Millers. Previously played top flight football for Norwich and Middlesbrough.

John Egan

Still looking for a new challenge after departing Sheffield United at the end of last season following six years at Bramall Lane. Racked up more than 200 appearances for the Blades and has won 36 Ireland caps to date.

Cyrus Christie

Departed Hull City following the conclusion of last term, having played 27 times in the Championship last term. Has also played for the likes of Swansea, Nottingham Forest and Fulham as well as representing Ireland on the international stage.

Paul Dummett

Became a free agent over the summer after a long association with Newcastle, having progressed through the Academy ranks at St James’ Park. Played six times last season in the Premier League.

Erik Pieters

Another defender with a wealth of experience following stints at West Brom, Burnley and Stoke City. Played 25 times for the Baggies last term and can play virtually anywhere across the back line.

Martin Kelly

Was also released by West Brom this summer and has not made a competitive appearance since February 2023 after suffering an ACL injury. Played top flight football with Liverpool and Crystal Palace earlier in his career.

MIDFIELDERS

Jack Cork

Spent the past seven years at Burnley but did not get many opportunities last season as the club was relegated from the Premier League. Also had spells with Swansea and Southampton among others and made one appearance for England.

John Fleck

Spent the second half of last term at Blackburn Rovers but suffered a season-ending knee injury just 17 minutes into his debut against Preston North End. Previously racked up more than 400 appearances across his stays at Sheffield United and Coventry.

Jeff Hendrick

Departed Newcastle this summer following a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday as the Owls managed to avoid relegation from the Championship. Also spent time on loan at Reading and QPR in recent years.

Jake Livermore

Spent last term at Watford, making 30 appearances in the second tier and scoring three times. Has nearly 200 Premier League matches under his belt and played for England a handful of times earlier in his career.

Josh Onomah

Found himself without a club last season following a brief stay at Preston. Had a trial at Blackpool during pre-season but was unable to secure a contract at Bloomfield Road.

Fred Onyedinma

Released by Luton at the end of last term, having made eight appearances at the back end of the campaign. Also had a loan spell at Rotherham, playing 19 times for the Millers and scoring twice.

Forwards

Aaron Connolly

Scored eight goals for Hull last season before departing the MKM Stadium at the end of his contract. Has also spent time on loan at Middlesbrough and Italian club Venezia, and is only 24.

Scott Hogan

Departed Birmingham following relegation to League One, having found the net twice in 29 matches last term. Has plenty of experience plenty of Championship experience from spells with Stoke, Aston Villa and Brentford.

Freddie Ladapo

Agreed to terminate his contract at Ipswich after scoring 25 times in 75 matches as the Tractor Boys won back-to-back promotions from League One. Spent the second half of last season on loan at Charlton, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Lincoln.

Tyreece John-Jules

Released by Arsenal over the summer following loan spells with Lincoln, Doncaster, Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Derby. Found the net twice in 14 appearances for the Rams last term as they were promoted to the second tier.
