JACK Iredale has left Bolton Wanderers to join Scottish Premiership side Hibs on a two-year deal.

The Australian defender made 68 appearances for the Whites after signing from Cambridge United in the summer of 2022, and scored three goals.

Iredale featured on the opening day of the season against Leyton Orient but has not been included in recent squads, with George Johnston’s return from injury pushing him down the pecking order at the Toughsheet Stadium.

The 28-year-old was a regular in the side last season, featuring as a substitute in May’s play-off final defeat to Oxford United.

“With the size of the squad it was going to be difficult for Jack to get regular game time," Ian Evatt explained.

“But he's a player who's had a really positive impact on what we've tried to do for the past couple of years.

“He’s a wonderful lad who’s been a pleasure to be around and a pleasure to coach and we wish him all the best moving forward.”

He joins a Hibs side that sits second bottom of the SPL having taken one point from their opening three fixtures.

Iredale was born in Scotland and has spells at Morton and Queen’s Park earlier in his career before moving to Carlisle United.

Wanderers must submit their squad to the EFL next week, which can contain a maximum of 22 outfield players over the age of 21.

Iredale's departure means they have one more space available, which opens the door for Ian Evatt to pursue the signing of a free agent.

The Bolton boss has confirmed he has been in talks with two different players who have been discussing moves to Premier League or Championship sides. It is hoped post-window that he can now complete one of the deals to fill the final slot in the squad.
