Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has issued updates on Victor Adeboyejo and Scott Arfield following the 2-0 win at Shrewsbury.
Adeboyejo was absent from the squad in Shropshire, while Arfield was forced off during the second half.
“Nathan (Baxter) was just rested,” Evatt explained after the final whistle. “Victor, on Saturday you saw the lad come through the back of him with a nasty knee kind of into the ribcage area. It is still very painful so we decided not to take any risks.”
He added: “Scott Arfield showed what he can do. The downside is, whether he was cramping or a slight hamstring issue, we don’t know. We will see but other than that, it has been a really positive night.”
Jordi Osei-Tutu and Dion Charles struck in the second half as the Whites booked their place in the third round.
“I enjoyed the first half so much apart from that killer edge, we wanted that killer instinct in front of goal,” said the manager.
“That feeling is something I want us to keep hold of. I said to them at half time, ‘If you don’t go and replicate that in the second half then you are going to lose’.
“The feeling at Charlton, we don’t want that again. We want to progress, perform and build momentum, that was definitely a momentum building performance.”
It was Osei-Tutu’s first Bolton goal since his move from Bochum, while Sunderland loanee Jay Matete delivered another promising display in midfield.
“I was really impressed with Jordi and Jay, I thought they were both excellent,” Evatt insisted. “Chris Forino as well, he really showed what he is going to bring to the table.
“He is a really good player and we just have to get him more confidence in his body and make him robust.
“He is hugely talented, I was really pleased with all the new recruits who came in tonight.”
The third-round draw takes place on Wednesday night, with the Premier League clubs competing in Europe entering at this stage.
When asked who he wanted in the draw, the Wanderers boss joked: “Whoever I say, we will end up as far away as we possibly can!
“I would love us to get a big one, all the big ones are in it now but I don’t think we are the luckiest in the draws, so we will see.”
