A number of first team players got valuable minutes under their belts as the B Team kicked off the Central League season with a 5-0 win against Notts County.

Luke Southwood played the full 90 minutes in goal while Chris Forino, Jordi Osei-Tutu, Jay Matete, Aaron Morley and Kyle Dempsey featured in the first half.

Dempsey got the opener and Dubem Eze slotted home a penalty for the second after Osei-Tutu had been tripped in the box.

Despite having a more youthful line-up in the second half, the Whites had more joy in the final third as Luke Matheson and Harrison Fleury got on the scoresheet, as well as an own goal from the visitors.

Andy Taylor’s side started on the front foot as Eze picked out Ben Andreucci in the box, but his strike was saved by Milai Perrot.

Dempsey put Bolton in front with an instinctive finish from close range after the goalkeeper had made another decent save from an angle.

Southwood didn’t have much to do but throughout the afternoon but made a smart stop to keep his side in front after Jay Matete thought he had been fouled.

Dempsey continued to cause problems and did well to tee up Andreucci, whose goal-bound shot was blocked in front of goal by a defender.

The second goal came on the stroke of half time when Eze kept his cool to beat Perrot from 12 yards after good work by Osei-Tutu.

Five youngsters joined the fray at the break and the visitors briefly took control, with Freddie Pitts heading over from close range after a dangerous free kick.

Harrison Hazard then managed to get to the byline and flashed across goal but there was nobody waiting at the far post to convert.

Wanderers got back on top and Eze slipped in Andreucci. His low drive seemed to be heading for the bottom corner but Perrot made another good stop.

The former Leeds youngster managed to get in behind the backline again a few minutes later. This time, he had the goalkeeper beaten but the ball crept just wide of the post.

The pressure paid off when Matheson timed his run well to get on the end of a ball over the top and provided a clinical finish past Perrot.

Eze continued to look lively and nearly sent Fleury through on goal, but the goalkeeper reacted quickly and managed to smother.

The fourth goal came after a mix-up at the back as the visitors looked to play their way out of trouble.

Fleury wrapped up the result with a simple finish from close range after a well-worked attack down the left flank.

“It is always nice to get a win, first and foremost,” said Taylor. “Obviously, we are in development football so the ultimate success isn’t necessarily winning games, but it is always nice.

“It breeds confidence within the group and it is good to get off to a positive start now we are back into the competitive stuff.”
