Max Conway is hungry to show what he can do in League Two as Crewe Alexandra aim to bounce back from their play-off pain.
The Railwaymen made it to the Wembley final last term but missed out on promotion following a 2-0 defeat against Crawley.
Conway, who recently headed to the Mornflake Stadium on a season-long loan, is excited by the prospect of minutes in the EFL following stints at Rochdale and Fylde in the National League.
“I watched the game last year and thought it was unfortunate they didn’t manage to go up,” he told the club channels.
“That is always the ambition, to go that extra mile, and hopefully we can challenge to do the same thing.
“I had a word with my agent and he was all for (the move) because it suits the style of football I play.
“Possession-based, expansive, I think it is a very good fit for me and hopefully I can be a good fit for Crewe.”
Conway was around the first-team squad at Wanderers during pre-season, getting the chance to test himself against the likes of Fiorentina, Middlesbrough and Stoke City.
Ian Evatt was pleased with what he saw from the youngster and believes he has a bright future at Wanderers, although the manager insisted a loan in the EFL was the best option for his development in the short term.
“I have been at Bolton since I was seven so the place feels like home,” Conway added. “That is the main ambition but for the time being, it is to good things here.
“I feel really fit and ready to go. We had some challenging games (in pre-season) but I thought I played well.”
The 20-year-old full-back made his Crewe debut in the 1-0 defeat at Barrow on the opening day, coming off the bench for the final half-hour at Holker Street.
Conway also started the 2-1 defeat against Rotherham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, getting 80 minutes under his belt before making way for Mickey Demetriou.
Crewe are back in league action this weekend when they welcome Chesterfield to the Mornflake Stadium.
