Mansfield are waiting on the fitness of Frazer Blake-Tracy ahead of their Carabao Cup first-round tie at Wanderers.

The full-back felt his hamstring during the final stages of the Stags’ 2-1 win at Barnsley over the weekend.

It was a strong start to life back in League One for Nigel Clough’s side after goals from Stephen Quinn and Lee Gregory in the first half. Ex-Bolton man Luca Connell pulled one back for the hosts.

“It’s wonderful that (the fans) have come up in their numbers again,” Clough said after the final whistle.

“I think it will be a memorable one, the first back in League One for 20-odd years, they will remember it.

“The quality of the two goals, especially Quinny’s. I think just the extra second he took as well where he chested it down unhurried on the edge of the box… no goalkeeper would have saved that.

“He was good again for an hour and instrumental in a lot of the good work early on.”

Former Wanderers target Keanu Baccus joined Mansfield from St Mirren over the summer and had a role in the second goal.

Clough added: “It wasn’t just the cross and the finish, the build-up as well was magnificent for the goal.

“Keanu’s just crossed it blind, you don’t have to look. Your striker should be in there and Lee got across the near post and got his first league goal for us, so it is brilliant for him.

“It is the positive approach that we’ve been emphasising to the players. We are going to have to change and be flexible at times as we were in the second half and we went to three centre-halves.

“(The start) forced Barnsley into a substitution after 25 minutes. They changed formation and got a little bit more traction in the game, so we had to react accordingly.”

Blake-Tracy will be assessed ahead of Tuesday night's tie as the Stags look to produce another positive performance on the road.

He continued: “I thought we gave the ball away (early in the second half). After that, we got a little more back into the game and I thought we had three or four unbelievably good situations and chances to go and get that third goal.

“I thought the subs played their part and that’s what we’re going to need. The only downside is Frazer Blake-Tracy felt his hamstring on that last run right at the end.

“We will get him assessed in the next couple of days, but I think it’ll be pretty much the same squad.”
