Wanderers youngster Max Conway has joined League Two club Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan.

Conway got minutes under his belt for the first team during pre-season while Randell Williams was out injured.

However, Hungary international Szabi Schön has bolstered the Whites’ left wing-back options ahead of the new League One campaign.

Ian Evatt admitted that Conway would benefit from a loan spell in the Football League as he continues his development.

“Max has done incredibly well during pre-season. We have really needed him to and he has stood up to the challenge,” Evatt told The Bolton News after the 3-0 win at Port Vale.

“He has got a really good future here but it is important that he gets a full season under his belt somewhere because it will mature him."

The Wanderers boss added: “It is not to get him out of the way, we are doing it to develop him.

"Whatever department that might be in – psychologically, physically, technically - it will help him and bring him on for our team because we think he has got a future here with Bolton.”

The 20-year-old goes straight into the squad for Crewe’s League Two opener against Barrow on Saturday afternoon.

Lee Bell’s side narrowly missed out on promotion from the fourth tier last term, losing 2-0 against Crawley in the play-off final at Wembley.

It is a step up from Conway’s previous loans, having spent time at Rochdale and Fylde in the National League last term.

Meanwhile, Ellis Litherland has joined Atherton Colls on a short-term loan. The young goalkeeper impressed as the B Team drew 2-2 at the Skuna Stadium last weekend.
