Szabolcs Schön says it is a “dream” to be joining a club with the history of Wanderers.

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper over a three-year deal at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, becoming the Whites’ fifth summer signing.

Schön arrives with the new League One campaign around the corner after helping Fehérvár reach the Europa Conference League third qualifying round.

“It's a pleasure to be here,” he told the club site. “I don't have to talk a lot about this club's past because everyone knows this club is really big and I can't wait to meet the players and the fans in the stadium.

“It's a really beautiful stadium and I can't wait for the first game at home. I think every kid’s dream is to play in front of so many fans. For me, English football means a lot so I'm happy to be here.

“Of course, when I signed here I checked the club and I checked the players so I'm really into it. I hope I can help the team go back in the right way. Again, I'm really happy to be here.”

The wing-back was part of the Hungary squad at Euro 2020 and also featured in a 1-1 draw against England at Wembley in 2021.

He is now determined to impress at Wanderers in the hope of winning back his place on the international stage.

Schön, who also had a spell at Dallas in the MLS, is set to become the second Hungarian to play for the Whites after Adam Bogdan.

“I spoke with him yesterday,” the new signing continued. “He congratulated me and it means a lot to me to be the second Hungary player at this club.

“Playing in the European Championships is what I'm really proud of in my career and I think the biggest one.

“I just want to keep pushing and I want to get back into that kind of way so I can't wait to get back to work.

“Hungary had an okay Euros and were unlucky not to get through from the group stage, and that was a decision made by me and my agent also to come here to get back in the national team.”
