Two Lostock AC members, Amanda Smith and Lurdes Corlett, completed the epic Montane Lakeland 50-mile challenge last weekend.
This gruelling challenge commences at the northern end of Ullswater and covers tough terrain, visiting Haweswater, Long Sleddale, Kentmere, Ambleside and Tiblerthwait before a final climb and descent to finish at Coniston.
Participants cover a dizzying climb of 3,100 metres (10,170 feet) with the run starting at 11.30am on Saturday and having a cut-off time of 24 hours, resulting in some participants running and walking into the night.
Smith had an awesome run, finishing in 15hrs 5mins and was followed by Corlett in 18:20:00.
The July instalment of the Media City 5k took place on Wednesday. The race series organised by Runthrough, takes place in the evening from April to September and competitors are encouraged to chase the sun as they complete two laps around Media City in Salford.
It was a beautiful evening for the run and Lostockers had some fantastic results. Jo McManus was first across the finish line in 23:51, achieving first in age category. She was followed by Dave Gregson, in 24:48, who was second in age category and Rachel Stevens (26:48).
Not content with racing on Wednesday, McManus and Stevens headed to Preston to take part in the Dockland Marina 10k in Preston where they were joined by fellow members Tony Maxwell, Sheila Garewal and Stephen Davies.
This is a scenic and flat 10k race which starts at the Ribble Pilot Pub on the side of Preston Marina with participants completing a partial lap of the marina, then turning left to complete a small loop around a housing estate before joining the riverside path to enjoy a tranquil run along the River Ribble. Runners then complete a U-turn, heading back along the river and around the marina.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and this made racing conditions tough with participants slowing down to avoid overheating. McManus had another fantastic run, finishing second in her age category in 49:42. Next home for Lostock was Maxwell in 52:44, followed by Stevens, in 57:34.
Garewal also had an amazing race, finishing in 1:03:15 and winning her age category. Davies followed in 1:15:20.
Parkrun results: Bolton - Melonie Crompton 26:32 (first in age category), Peter Noble 33:33; Clarence - Rachel Hancock 24:41 (third female and first in age category); Haigh Woodland - Greg Kilshaw 23:02, Andy Laycock 24:18, Brian Halton 24:22, Ian Burns 29:26; Pennington Flash - Mark Checkley 32:06; Seaton - Karen Taylor 30:30, Chris Taylor 34:33; St Helens - Rachel Stevens 26:44 (first in age category).
