Daisy Hill will look to keep their good early season form going on in the North West Counties League First Division North when they face another double header of games this weekend, writes Ian Templeman.
Saturday’s trip away to Bacup Borough is followed by a home game against early season promotion favourites Nelson on Monday evening - but Daisy will go into the games buoyed by an outstanding 1-0 win over Maine Road at the Plumb Factory Stadium last Monday, when they played most of the second half with 10 men.
Daisy boss Lee Hill admits that the performance and result will give him some difficult decisions to make for the trip to Bacup.
“The performance against Maine Road does means we have a bit of a selection headache for Saturday”, said Hill.
“But really, every week as the management team, we have selection headaches as we have a lot of good players in the squad.
“It’s tough, as we have a really good group, but we can swap lads in and out, like we did on Monday when we made a couple of changes from last Saturday”.
Bacup Borough sit at the top of the table with two wins out of two and no goals conceded, and although Hill is wary of Saturday’s opponents he is also upbeat about his side’s chances.
“It’s a good time to be going to Bacup because the pitch will probably be in good condition at this stage of the season, and much better than when we last went up there, so it should suit is a bit more.
“We know it is going to be another tough task, as it was last Saturday against Holker and on Monday against Maine Road.
“But the whole league is tough, it’s a really hard league and if you had asked me before the season started if I’d take a win and a draw from our first two games I would have said yes, absolutely.
“We just have to approach each game positively and look to keep our early momentum going”.
Kick off at the Brian Boys West View Stadium on Saturday is at 3 pm, while kick off at the Plumb Factory Stadium on Monday evening is at 7.45 pm.
