WILL Forrester has become the latest Wanderers player to be struck down by injury this summer.
The defender looks set to miss out on a return to his former club Port Vale this weekend after rolling his ankle on the training ground on Monday.
Ian Evatt hoped after his side’s 1-0 defeat against Stoke City that the injury would not keep him out for long but could not put a timeframe on his return.
In better news for the Whites, Chris Forino, Kyle Dempsey and Randell Williams are nearing a comeback and Nathan Baxter’s absence against Stoke was not a fitness issue.
Aaron Collins could feature at the weekend, having bruised his knee playing against Fiorentina last Friday.
The Bolton boss said: “Nathan was just rested. Aaron Collins’ bang is getting better but it was too soon to play him tonight.
“Will hurt his ankle in training yesterday, the poor kid just can’t get a clear run. Every time he looks really good, gets fit, something happens and there’s an issue. It was innocuous, crazy, really.
“But positives, Chris Forino will be back training Thursday, Kyle Dempsey will be back early next week, Randell Williams late next week.
“Obviously they are short of game time but we have to get them up to speed as quickly as we can.
“There was some rustiness from some of the ones returning tonight – Jack (Iredale), George (Johnston) and Dion (Charles) but that will stand them in good stead for what is to come.”
Gethin Jones also had keyhole surgery on his knee yesterday, with the defender now likely to miss the next four weeks before returning to training.
Luke Southwood made his first appearance for Wanderers in goal, completing his return from a broken fibula sustained on the final day of last season playing for Cheltenham Town.
