Burnden Road Runners had one very Tough Mudder in the brave form of Rick Winnard this week.
He fully immersed himself in the obstacle-packed 10K - examples of which are the ‘Arctic’ where challengers have to navigate underwater tyres and an unnerving section full of electric cables which shock any wandering limbs.
Not billed as a race, so free of results and completely voluntary, the Tough Mudder challenges are doubtless full of the predictable mud, fast-paced and not for the faint-hearted.
Winnard finished the course in 1hr 14mins 35secs.
There was joy for Burnden’s secretary and graduate of the Beginners’ group of 2021 - Sarah Brown - at parkrun.
Not only did she hit the 100 milestone at Bolton Parkrun, she also smashed her personal-best time as she achieved a sub-30 on the notorious course, clocking 29:41.
