Former Wanderers striker Jamie Proctor has joined non-league club Southport following his departure from Barrow.

The 32-year-old was released by Barrow earlier this summer, having made 27 appearances for the Bluebirds last season.

Last month, Proctor announced he would be retiring from full time professional football to focus on his business.

He will now play for the Sandgrounders in the National League North alongside his new venture.

"After 15 years, 400-plus appearances, four promotions and far too many clubs to mention, I’ve made the extremely difficult decision to say my goodbyes to full time professional football,” he wrote last month.

"It’s taken some difficult conversations with loved ones but I certainly feel now is the right time. I’ve dreaded this day for a very long time but I can genuinely say I’m so excited for what is next.

"It’s difficult because I still have a lot to give, but my focus has shifted and my business is my main passion.

“Concentrating on HPI (High Performance Individuals) on a full time basis will allow me to give athletes the service they need and deserve.

"I’ve given absolutely everything for the past 15 years to continue this journey professionally and I am proud of what I achieved and where I ended up. There are far too many people to thank who have played a huge role in my professional career.”

He added: "Anybody who knows me will know I’ve been a big believer in preparing for what is next after football and have studied hard for many years to be in a position to build a business supporting and advising athletes in all the areas I lacked support. The timing is perfect and I can’t wait to see where the future takes me and my family."

Proctor played for the Whites during the 2016/17 campaign. He also had spells with Preston North End, Wigan, Rotherham and Port Vale among others.
