A look at some of the latest news and gossip from around Wanderers division…
Injury blow for Terriers
Huddersfield defender Radinio Balker suffered a broken ankle in a friendly against Harrogate and is set to miss the first half of the season.
It is a blow for Michael Duff, who took charge at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier this summer following relegation from the Championship.
The Yorkshire club have a tough start to the new campaign, on paper, with a trip to Peterborough on Saturday, August 10.
Salop close in on Hoole
Luca Hoole is reportedly set to sign for Shrewsbury, becoming the club’s sixth addition of the summer window.
The 22-year-old full-back made 25 appearances for Bristol Rovers last season and had been offered fresh terms to remain at the Memorial Stadium.
Shrewsbury are aiming to build on their 19th-place finish under Paul Hurst, who returned to the club in January.
Defender makes long-awaited comeback
Northampton man Tyler Magloire has made his return to the pitch following a lengthy spell out with a serious knee injury.
The 25-year-old defender suffered the injury against Colchester in February 2023 and had to watch from the sidelines last term.
He told BBC Northampton: "The performance wasn't exactly important, it was just about getting back out there after a long time and hopefully I'll be ready to go when the real games come around.”
Cobblers look at McCarron
Stoke midfielder Liam McCarron is one of several players “under consideration” at Northampton, according to manager Jon Brady.
McCarron featured as a trialist against Norwich at the weekend following reports he was on trial with the Cobblers.
Northampton have already brought in six fresh faces ahead of the upcoming campaign, including former Bolton forward Tom Eaves.
Keeper set for loan switch
Crystal Palace youngster Joe Whitworth is reportedly set to join Exeter on loan as he continues his development.
The goalkeeper impressed for the Eagles’ Under-21 side last season as they won the Premier League International Cup.
Whitworth made a couple of Premier League appearances in March 2023, becoming the club’s youngest keeper to play in the top flight.
Blues linked with Cochrane
Birmingham have been linked with a move for Hearts defender Alex Cochrane as Chris Davies continues to put his stamp on the squad.
Cochrane progressed through the ranks at Brighton before heading north of the border in the summer of 2021, initially on loan before making the move permanent.
Birmingham are aiming to bounce back from relegation from the Championship and have already brought in last season’s Golden Boot winner Alfie May from Charlton.
