Former Wanderers striker Tom Eaves has joined League One rivals Northampton Town on an initial two-year deal.
The 32-year-old had a year left on his contract at Rotherham but has now linked up with Jon Brady’s squad at Sixfields.
Eaves made 35 appearances in the Championship last season as the Millers were relegated, scoring six times.
The towering forward - who also had spells with Hull, Gillingham and Yeovil among others - was understood to be a potential target for the Whites in January 2023 prior to Cameron Jerome’s arrival.
Brady is excited to work with Eaves and believes he will be a good fit at Sixfields. “Tom is a quality addition to the squad,” said the manager.
“He has a physical presence about him and we believe he will blend and balance well with the other strikers we have at the club.
“He isn’t just all about being a physical presence though, he is very mobile and he is capable of skilful finishes as his record shows. He has a good goal to games record.
“He finished last season strongly in the Championship, scoring twice on the final day of the season, and he has spent the last three seasons at that level.
“When a player with Tom’s attributes, his experience, his goalscoring record and his pedigree becomes available there is always a lot of interest and we are delighted to be able to welcome him to Sixfields.”
Meanwhile, another former Wanderer has switched clubs ahead of the upcoming season. Lukas Jensen has joined Millwall from Lincoln for an undisclosed fee.
Goalkeeper Jensen – who had a loan spell with the Whites in 2021 but failed to make a senior appearance – has put pen to paper over a “long term” deal at the Den.
He impressed for the Imps last season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 45 matches, and will now be aiming to prove that he can make the step up to Championship football.
“I’m honestly buzzing. I’ve always said I wanted play at the highest level so once Millwall was an option for me, if was a no-brainer," Jensen told Millwall's official channels.
“The Championship is a very high level but I believe I’m ready for it to prove myself.
“Once I spoke with the gaffer and he told me about the project, it was something I could see myself in.
"And seeing previous seasons of how well they’ve done, I could see myself in it and I can’t wait to get started.”
