WANDERERS fans will be able to watch the relaunched women’s team for FREE next season.
The club has confirmed there will be no admission price for fans wanting to see the Whites in action at Atherton Colls FC on Sunday afternoons.
The new season kicks off on August 18 and chief executive Neil Hart hopes the partnership with the Northern Premier League club will prove successful for both parties.
“We’re excited to bring the women’s team here,” he told The Bolton News.
“We needed a home for the team and we made contact with Atherton Colls in May as our first choice,” he said. “We came down and had a look, met with the chairman Paul (Gregory). It is great for us from a location point of view, the pitch is in excellent condition, we have agreed a partnership for the 2024/25 season.
“We will run with it for 12 months and see how it goes but we’d encourage everyone to get down here, buy their food and beverage, enjoy the game and hopefully it will be a mutually beneficial thing.”
Wanderers women’s team will be semi-professional and have appointed a full-time manager in Myles Smith, who can count Manchester United and West Ham United among his former clubs.
Three trials were held last week and this weekend the selected players will be involved in an inter-squad friendly.
“Making the games free makes it accessible for everyone,” Hart said. “People can come and watch games and we’ll be advertising it across all club communications once the fixtures are announced. We hope Bolton Wanderers fans will come down and support the team.
“Further down the line we may look to put a nominal charge on it but at this stage it is a new journey, we want to build a base.
“We have started afresh with lots of areas of the club. We have rebuilt the membership now into 60,000 individuals, we have taken season tickets from 8-9,000 up to 16,000, so the strategies behind all those things are similar and hopefully the trend will continue too.
“We want a good, competitive team out there and for people of Bolton, Atherton and the surrounding areas to come out and support us.”
