Lostock AC members excelled at the annual Leo Pollard Duathlon.

The duathlon is for club members, family and friends and is a friendly competition with both beginners and seasoned professionals taking part, either solo or as part of a relay.

The Duathlon begins with a 5k bike ride starting at on George’s Lane, Horwich at the top of Wilderswood. The cycle starts with a fast decent along George’s Lane, then turns left on Matchmoor Lane. It is then a climb up Burnt Edge Lane to Mast Road where the run commences.

The first person to complete the cycle was Alan Wilson, who was competing in the relay and he handed over to his partne,r Greg Kilshaw, to complete the run. The next to arrive in the transition area was Julian Goudge, who was completing the event solo.

The run covered just 1.7 miles but this was a tough run, heading back along George’s Lane and over Two Lads. Although Kilshaw had a good lead thanks to Wilson, he was no match for Goudge. The seasoned trail runner was able to catch him on the climb to Two Lads.

After the run, it was back to the bikes to repeat the original loop and Goudge was this first to finish in 36mins 20secs, Wilson followed shortly behind in 37:40, securing first position in the relay with his team-mate Kilshaw. Clive Worthington was the first solo Lostock AC member to finish in 44:26 and third in the solo was Dave Wilcock, in 52:40.

The first all Lostock AC team to finish was Janet Rhodes, who completed the cycle, and Sally McCoy, who did the run. They finished in 49:59, followed by Mary White and Alan Sweatman, in 50:00, Karen Taylor and James Jackson (51:36) and Rachel and Ste Hancock (52:18).

For those who did not wish to take part in the duathlon, there was the option to run the route (completing just one loop of the cycle course). Heather Soden was the first back in 49:05, followed by Brian Halton (50:50), Ian Johnson (50:54), Chris Baker - who was initially winning but took a wrong turn - in 50:55 and Ian Burns (55:34).
