A look at some of the latest news and gossip from around Wanderers’ division…

Burton business

The Brewers have signed Elliott Watt and Geraldo Bajrami on free transfers from Salford and Notts County respectively.

Watt made 39 appearances as the Ammies finished 20th last term, while Bajrami spent most of the campaign on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury during a Carabao Cup tie.

The pair become Burton's first signings since their takeover by a Scandinavian consortium, who immediately appointed Mark Robinson as head coach.

Charlton closing in on Mitchell

Millwall centre-back Alex Mitchell is set to join the Addicks this summer, according to a report by South London Press.

Mitchell spent last season on loan at Lincoln, playing 41 times as the Imps narrowly missed out on a play-off spot.

The 22-year-old will become Charlton’s second signing of the summer if the deal goes through as Nathan Jones looks to put his stamp on the squad.

Wigan sign Rankine

Chelsea winger Dion Rankine has joined the Latics on a three-year deal following a loan spell at Exeter.

Rankine becomes Wigan's third addition of the summer following Calvin Ramsay and Michael Olakigbe.

Boss Shaun Maloney said: "He has all the attributes that we are looking for in a wide forward, as well as the determination to enjoy a successful season."

Williams attracting interest

Jordan Williams has emerged as a target for Portsmouth and Cardiff following his decision to leave Barnsley, according to The News.

Williams was an important figure at Oakwell last term, playing 52 times including both legs of the play-off semi-final defeat against Wanderers.

The 24-year-old has already experienced several seasons in the Championship prior to relegation with the Tykes.

Knight to leave Peterborough

Peterborough defender Josh Knight has turned down a new deal at London Road to join Bundesliga 2 club Hannover.

The 26-year-old was a key figure in Posh’s backline last season, scoring against Oxford in the play-off semi-final second leg.

He has penned a two-year contract with an option of a further 12 months at Hannover, who finished sixth in the German second tier.

Cambridge sign Watts

Former Newcastle defender Kell Watts has joined Cambridge on a two-year deal after spending last term on loan at Wigan.

Garry Monk is preparing for his first pre-season with the squad after taking charge at the Abbey Stadium in March.

Monk said: "Kell is a great character, a fantastic footballer and he will add a lot of quality and competition to the team.”
