Manchester United are in talks with former Wanderers loanee Shola Shoretire over a potential new deal at Old Trafford.
Shoretire had a stint with the Whites during the 2022/23 campaign, making 16 appearances as the Whites finished fifth in League One before coming up short against Barnsley in the play-off semi-final.
His only goal came on the final day of the regular season, netting in a 3-2 victory against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.
The 20-year-old returned to the Toughsheet Community Stadium last term to captain United’s youngsters as they were beaten 8-1 in the EFL Trophy group stage.
Shoretire’s current deal is set to expire this summer and United confirmed in their retained list that “discussions remain open” over a potential extension.
The versatile attacker made his senior debut in February 2021, coming off the bench for the final minutes of a 3-1 victory against Newcastle in the Premier League.
He has made five first-team appearances for United in total, including cameos in the Champions League and Europa League.
Shoretire impressed in Premier League 2 this season, getting seven goals and four assists before missing the final months of the campaign through injury.
An England youth international, he also bagged a brace in a 4-3 defeat against Salford in the EFL Trophy last October.
While Shoretire could still have a future at Old Trafford, the likes of Charlie McNeill, Marcus Lawrence and Kie Plumley will be departing the club this summer.
Player-coach Tom Huddlestone is also moving on, having held a role similar to Andy Tutte's at Wanderers, which involves playing alongside the youngsters rather than giving them instructions from the sidelines.
