WANDERERS will put the final preparations to their pre-season together with a pair of Potteries pre-season friendlies.

Ian Evatt’s side will host Championship side Stoke City on Tuesday, July 30, and then face their local rivals Port Vale at Vale Park on Saturday, August 3.

The new League One season will start the following weekend and Bolton will learn how the fixture schedule pans out on June 26.

Stoke endured a tough season, sacking manager Alex Neil in December and replacing him with Plymouth Argyle’s Steven Schumacher.

The former Bury midfielder initially struggled to turn results around but a run of six wins in their final 12 games lifted them to 17th spot, six points clear of the relegation zone.

The Potters found goals hard to come by, with Portuguese winger Andre Vidigal finishing as their top scorer on seven.

Port Vale had a campaign to forget in League One, relegated in April having sacked manager Andy Crosby and appointed former Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore on a long-term contract.

Although Vale reached the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup, losing out to Middlesbrough, their league form dropped significantly after an early cluster of victories in August and September.

They managed just five league wins between September 19 and their final fixture at home to Cambridge United and were officially relegated in a 2-0 defeat at Bolton.

Ben Garrity led their goalscoring charts on 12 goals in all competitions, and the club has just added ex-Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis to the squad for the new season.
