Former Wanderers midfielder Matt Taylor wants to “build something special” after taking charge at National League club Wealdstone.
Taylor had been out of work since he was sacked by Shrewsbury in January following a poor run of results. The 42-year-old also had a spell in charge at Walsall after hanging up his boots.
“We are thrilled to welcome Matt to Wealdstone," said chairman Rory Fitzgerald. "His experience at the top levels of football, both as a player and a coach, will be invaluable as we strive to develop our club to achieve our long-term ambitions.
“Matt's vision for the team, his clear principles for how he wants us to play and his track record of developing young talent are exactly what we need.”
Taylor added: "I am excited to join Wealdstone. We have a great opportunity to build something special here and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
Wealdstone are looking to build on last season’s 16th-place finish in the National League – four points above the relegation zone.
Taylor will be assisted in the dugout Paul Hughes, who had spells with Chelsea and Luton among others during his playing days.
Another former Bolton man who will be managing in the non-league pyramid next term is Phil Brown after the 64-year-old extended his contract at Kidderminster Harriers despite relegation from the National League.
Brown initially took charge on a short-term deal in January with the club seven points adrift, working alongside Neil McDonald in the dugout once again.
The former Derby and Hull boss oversaw a four-game winning run to bring the Reds within touching distance of safety but they eventually finished in 22nd place after a disappointing end to the campaign, losing four of their last five matches.
"Relegation hurt us all, we must turn that hurt into determination to bounce back," said director of football Dean Holdsworth after Brown’s new two-year deal was confirmed.
"The arrival of Phil Brown gave the players, supporters and the whole club a new sense of belief and the re-signing of Phil indicates the chairman's ambition to return to the National League as soon as possible.
"We're delighted to secure their services for another two seasons. We look forward to pressing the ‘reset’ button - plenty of hard work is already going on to ensure we are in the best possible shape to compete next season."
