WANDERERS’ darting king Josh Dacres-Cogley is eyeing a spectacular finish in the League One play-offs.
The wing-back was voted into the PFA’s team of the year in his first season at Bolton, became a father for the first time, and is now desperate to top it all off by clinching a return to the Championship, where he once turned out for Birmingham City.
Dacres-Cogley has gained a reputation at the club’s training ground at Lostock as a master of the oche, which was set up by the players last year to provide some dressing room banter.
Whilst he isn’t quite in Luke Littler territory just yet – the 28-year-old says darts brings out his competitive side.
“I am one of those who when I start something I have to be good at it,” he said.
“In my old house I had a darts board up but I haven’t had the chance in this one yet but at the end of the training day there’s one in the changing room and I’m giving the boys a few games.
“I am doing alright. Kyle Dempsey and George Thomason are alright too but I’m the best at the minute… Just for the minute.
“It’s something that brings us all together to have a good laugh, so it’s a nice thing to do.”
Signed on a free transfer from Tranmere last summer, Dacres-Cogley has turned out to be a canny bit of business, and with three goals and five assists to his name he was voted into the PFA Team of the Year last month.
“It was unexpected, I wouldn’t say a surprise because I back myself and I feel like I have had a good season,” he told The Bolton News. “I’m my own biggest critic, though, and I’d always want to add more goals, more assists and stuff like that.
“It was a nice honour to receive. I was always confident that I would be able to step up to League One after a couple of seasons in League Two.
“There’s nothing wrong with that confidence, there’s a fine line, I know what my capabilities are and I’m really glad I got the chance to show it.
“I feel like I have had some success and that I have improved in so many different ways.
“I’m thankful for the chance the club and the gaffer have given me and I want to keep building on it now to hopefully get us into the Championship.”
