Darren Moore admitted there was “real disappointment” after his Port Vale side were relegated to League Two following a 2-0 defeat at Wanderers.
Aaron Collins broke the deadlock with a thumping strike and Cameron Jerome wrapped up the result in stoppage time.
Moore knows there is a big summer ahead for the Valiants but insists he is fully committed to the club.
“Obviously, the mood is down and sombre because of what happened. It is not a nice feeling,” he said after the final whistle.
“We knew what we had to do today to try and keep our season alive. We knew we were coming to a difficult place but I thought the players stuck to their task and dug in.
“We knew we would be under pressure and have to be in some real uncomfortable situations, but I thought the boys stuck to it.
“Once we got to 60 or 70 minutes, we then had to get some more attacking players on the pitch and make a real go of it to get something from the game.
“They score and then they get one right at the end. The only result that mattered was ours, which we didn’t achieve.”
The Valiants had a decent spell after going behind but Nathan Baxter made a couple of important stops in the Bolton goal.
Moore continued: “We knew with the way they set their stall out early doors, it was about not giving anything away and being resolute with our defending.
“We knew we would get some special moments in the game where we could capitalise and get a goal, which would put Bolton under pressure.
“But that just didn’t come, we had chances but didn’t get the right contact. We wanted to start the game solid and contain Bolton.
“As the game reaches that hour mark and the pace picks up, we could start getting people into areas where we felt we could hurt Bolton, but the goal didn't come."
