Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst says his side must find “a hell of a lot more” ahead of their trip to Wanderers.
The Shropshire club were beaten 2-0 by Wycombe at the weekend after late goals from Luke Leahy and Richard Kone.
That result left them side 19th in the League One table – six points above the drop zone with three games still to play.
Hurst was far from pleased with Saturday’s display and admits their trip to the Toughsheet Community Stadium is looking “a lot more daunting”.
He told the club website: “The way that Bolton play, Marko (Marosi, goalkeeper) could end up with a bad back on Tuesday night if that’s the kind of performance we are going to produce!
“We might still get beat if we play at our absolute top level. It was looking like a daunting game, it is looking a lot more daunting now.
“I go back to when times are tough and what you look for out there - you look for character, you look for leaders, you look for spirit, you look for pride.
“We have got to find a hell of a lot more. Not only on Tuesday night but in the two after that as well.”
Salop have now gone four matches without victory and Hurst admits there is pressure heading into the final fixtures.
“Part of me is sick of talking about other teams,” he added. “Ultimately, at the minute, what it looks like is we are relying on other results.
“That is not a nice feeling, it is not a position we want to be in. At the end of the day, it is where we finish in two weeks’ time. Then we will all know where we are and our fate on that day.
“I guess that is a small positive but at the minute I am struggling to get too upbeat. At least it gets easier with a trip to Bolton!”
Defender Tom Flanagan will not be involved against the Whites after he was sent off during the Wycombe defeat for a reckless challenge on Joe Low.
Wanderers ran out 2-0 winners when the sides met at Montgomery Waters Meadow earlier in the season thanks to second-half strikes from Paris Maghoma and Aaron Morley.
Bolton also came out on top at the Toughsheet Community Stadium last season, with Josh Sheehan getting the decisive goal that day.
