WANDERERS’ promotion fate is back in their own hands after Derby County slipped up at Wycombe.

Paul Warne’s side had some presentable chances at Adams Park but failed to put a single shot on target in 90 minutes.

That means the Rams remain a point ahead of Bolton going into this weekend’s round of fixtures but have now, crucially, played a game more.

Wanderers still have a tough task on their hands, looking to inflict a first defeat on league leaders Portsmouth since January 13, when they were turned over 3-0 by Leyton Orient.

But, ultimately, they know that if they win their remaining four games - including a last-day trip to fourth-placed Peterborough - then they will be promoted to the Championship.

Derby have to pick themselves up again to face Orient on Saturday and hope that Pompey can do them a favour by taking points from the Whites.

Peterborough also kept themselves in strong contention with a comfortable 3-0 win against Port Vale at London Road.

Posh opened the scoring just before half time through Joel Randall and then doubled their lead with a penalty from Harrison Burrows. Alex Iacovitti put through his own net a few minutes before the end to leave Darren Ferguson’s side four points behind Bolton, with a game in hand.

Peterborough face sixth-placed Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium this weekend.
