The 23-strong team at Egerton Primary School which represented Bolton at this year's Greater Manchester Games Athletics Tournament.

The pupils fought off competition from 25 other Bolton schools at the town championships in February, before travelling to Manchester Regional Arena on March 4 to compete in the regional competition against 17 other schools across Greater Manchester.

Having competed at this level in previous years, pupils said they were delighted to represent Bolton once again at the regional competition, eager to improve on their 2022 result where they finished in fifth place.

The pupils competed in six track and six field events, and once again dominated in several disciplines, securing hard fought first places in the javelin, vertical jump and speed bounce.

The team of boys and girls from Egerton Primary were absolutely delighted to be announced as runners-up, securing joint second place in the regional tournament, and earning much coveted silver medals they had worked so hard to achieve.

Jonathan Mills, deputy head, said “We are absolutely delighted with the children's success.

“They all worked exceptionally hard leading up to the competition to achieve their silver medals.

“We are incredibly proud of them all.

“It really is a team effort, though - our staff deliver an amazing PE curriculum, and our extra-curricular clubs on offer have further supported the children's development.

“Also, our children are very well-supported by their families, which is so important.

“A lot of hard work has gone into this over a number of years, and we will keep looking at ways to improve even further.

“Who knows, maybe one day we can go even further and bring the gold medals home.”

The team competed were placed first in every single event, securing first place in the town competition in February.
