WANDERERS (3-1-4-2).
JOEL COLEMAN…6.
Handling was solid and didn’t have an especially busy day considering Derby’s tendency to bomb the box. Mendez-Laing’s first half chance seemed to catch him out a tad.
GETHIN JONES…6.
Got caught on the ball a couple of times but defensively he will be pleased with his day’s work. Kept Derby to very little down their left side.
RICARDO SANTOS…7.5.
Defended well, won plenty in their air and didn’t give Gayle a sniff for the time he was on the pitch. Not a hugely busy day but effective enough.
EOIN TOAL…6.5.
Booked early on for a foul on the edge of the box but kept his composure and didn’t let much past him at all.
JOSH SHEEHAN…6.5.
Marked closely early on by Barkhuizen and once again targeted for some poor challenges. You were crying out for Bolton to play through him more in the latter stages, though.
JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…6.
Looked as likely as anyone to make something happen in the first half, getting into some great positions on the right. Final ball could have been much better.
GEORGE THOMASON…5.5.
Wasn’t as tidy in possession as you would want. Broke through well for a big chance in the second half, only to be denied by Wildsmith.
PARIS MAGHOMA…6.5.
Shone in spells, particularly in the first half, but you were begging for him to get a shot away at times as Derby’s defenders swarmed around him.
NAT OGBETA…6.5.
Clipped the bar with one cross and provided another spot-on ball for Bodvarsson. Hit and miss with his service otherwise but created some of the key moments in the game.
JON DADI BODVARSSON…7.
Everything but the goal. Good link-up play, worked hard out of possession, even connected with his one big chance perfectly. Just not going his way right now.
AARON COLLINS…5.5.
After such a bright game against Oxford this was a disappointing day for the Welshman, who looked leggy from the start of the second half.
Subs: Jerome 77 (for Bodvarsson), Williams 80 (for Obgeta), Morley 84 (for Thomason), Dempsey 84 (for Maghoma).
Not used: Iredale, Forrester, Hutchinson.
MAN OF THE MATCH – Ricardo Santos.
Did everything that was asked of him. Wanderers got a captain’s performance from him – even if the outcome will hit hard.
MOAN OF THE MATCH – After dominating the game for long spells in either half they had to emerge from Pride Park with something to show for it. Been the case too often.
MAGIC MOMENT – You have to give Joe Wildsmith some credit for the save he pulled off from Bodvarsson’s header. Top drawer.
Derby County (3-4-1-2): Wildsmith; Nelson, Forsyth, Cashin; Ward, Adams, Hourihane, Sibley; Barkhuizen; Gayle, Mendez-Laing.
Subs: Smith 21 (for Gayle), Waghorn 46 (for Barkhuizen), Thompson 46 (for Hourihane), Wilson 46 (for Ward), Elder 77 (for Sibley).
Not used: Loach, Blackett-Taylor.
Referee: Marc Edwards 7/10 – Controlled a physical game pretty well in the end, even if Sheehan got very little change in the first half. Was there a handball before Wilson’s header hit the net? Was a tough one to spot.
Attendance: 32,538.
