Portsmouth and Derby currently occupy the automatic promotion spots, with Wanderers, Barnsley and Peterborough in hot pursuit.

There are likely to be plenty more twists and turns before the end of the season as clubs battle to reach the Championship.

With four of the top five in action tonight, here is what each of the managers had to say.

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho on Burton clash

 “It will be a different test for us against Burton but that doesn’t mean it is going to be any easier,” said Mousinho.

“It might be more difficult, in fact, against a side who performed well at the weekend and were unlucky not to take a point against Peterborough.

“They were well organised, caught them on the break and were a threat from set-pieces. Their league position might not suggest it, but it is a game where we will have to be fully focused.

“Patience might be needed at times, although that is the case most weeks, and we have to make sure we get forward and send balls into the box when we can. That is what football is all about and you have to find the right mix, otherwise you become a bit predictable.

“You have to play every side twice and I don’t think there is necessarily a pattern to our results against the sides at the top and bottom of the table.

“It doesn’t really concern us at all – the exciting thing is that we are in a good position with nine games of the season remaining.”

Derby boss Paul Warne on Reading test

“Their team, on paper, is as good as any other team in this league. When we played at their place in January, it wasn't a great night for us,” Warne explained.

“It was a good indication of this league, or any league in sport, that if you are not at the best and the opposition are playing well then you are going to lose.

“I don't regard Reading being the opposition any harder than facing Bolton or Portsmouth. I just think, if we are at our very best, then we are hard to beat.

“It is about us trying to get ourselves into that mindset. Hopefully Pride Park will be bouncing and we can get another three points.

“I fully respect what Reading are doing, they are the best pressing team in the league, which cannot be underestimated.

“They have got goals throughout their team and they are a real threat, so we are well aware of how good they could be.”

Barnsley boss Neill Collins on Carlisle trip

“I have spent a lot of time thinking about Saturday (a 5-1 defeat against Lincoln) because that's what we do when we have a result like that,” said Collins.

“I think when you watch it back, I can't say without emotion because you are still disappointed, but obviously you can look at it from an analysis point of view.

“We had players that have been very good having an off day and probably had too many.

"That is the great thing about this league is that you are out again tomorrow night and this is what's so special about English football.

“There are 46 games and there is no hiding place. It is more than just being a good side - it is about being resilient, having strength in depth - because you play so many games, you need different characteristics and attributes.

“That is one of the reasons we are where we are. We need to continue with that, so we are really looking forward to (Carlisle) and it is just a chance to get another three points.”

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt on Oxford test

“Everyone needs to be together. I have said that a lot, and there has never been a more important time for it to happen,” Evatt told The Bolton News.

“On Tuesday night I want us to create such an intimidating intense atmosphere, I want this stadium to be rocking from start to finish and give the lads their all.

“I will make sure the players give them their all in return, and hopefully we can get the right result, we have to be ready and at it.”
