WANDERERS (3-5-2).
JOEL COLEMAN…6.
A quiet day in terms of goalmouth action but came confidently for the ball and provided the extra man when defenders needed to move the ball out from the back. Solid.
GETHIN JONES…6.
Recovered his poise well after what was a shaky start on the ball and worked in tandem with Dacres-Cogley to get into some good areas on the right side.
RICARDO SANTOS…6.
Handled his former team-mate Kachunga well and probably needed a game like this to settle back into a proper rhythm. Bolton will need him at full speed at Barnsley.
EOIN TOAL…6.5.
Got on the ball, used it well, won plenty in the air – all the boxes were ticked. Another Wanderers who needed a confidence boosting game like this.
JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…6.
Should have scored early on, without question. Kept going, tested the keeper a few minutes later, and combined with Jones to make Danny Andrew’s day a sight more difficult.
PARIS MAGHOMA…7.5.
The Brentford midfielder is getting some swagger back. He had lacked an end product at Wigan yet against Cambridge he supplied a great ball for Collins and always looked positive.
JOSH SHEEHAN…6.5.
Maybe a surprise to see him in the side, given his nine yellows. The Welsh architect started off near enough every Wanderers attack and claimed another assist for Thomason.
GEORGE THOMASON…7.
Provided a fine finish into the bottom corner to get the ball rolling for Bolton and motored around the pitch as well as anyone. His yellow card was probably avoidable, though.
NAT OGBETA…6.5.
Perhaps his best game for Bolton so far, reliable on the ball and always seemed to be in space. Now getting up to full speed fitness-wise, it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
VIC ADEBOYEJO…6.5.
The combination with Collins showed some promise and Adeboyejo’s work with back to goal was definitely a step up on Wigan.
AARON COLLINS…7.
You wondered if it was going to be his day after a first-half miss close to goal, but what a fine finish to open up his Bolton account.
Subs: Morley 77 (for Thomason), Dempsey 77 (for Maghoma), Jerome 80 (for Adeboyejo), Bodvarsson 80 (for Collins), Williams 81 (for Ogbeta).
Not used: Iredale, Forrester.
MAN OF THE MATCH – Paris Maghoma.
Always looked positive on the ball, finding good pockets of space around the penalty box. Supplied a fine ball for Collins to score the second. Finding his early season form again.
MOAN OF THE MATCH – Wanderers should have been out of sight by half time. This was comfortable but there are stiffer tests ahead where chances will be at a premium.
MAGIC MOMENT – Aaron Collins’ finish for the second was a lovely moment, capped by an acrobatic somersault which really announced him as a Wanderer.
Cambridge United: Stevens; L Bennett, R Bennett, Morrison, Andrew; Digby, Thomas; Kaikai, Lankester, Brophy; Kachunga.
Subs: Cousins 81 (for Digby), Bonne 81 (for Kachunga).
Not used: Rossi, Mannion, Njoku, Ewens-Findlay.
Referee: Ollie Yates – 5/10 – Didn’t crack down on the Cambridge keeper’s timewasting and booked Adeboyejo for questioning it. Then ignored a forearm across Sheehan’s face as the visitors broke and Kaikai nearly scored. Could have been costly.
Attendance: 20,246.
