Wanderers will be looking to bounce back from a tough few days when they welcome Cambridge to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The Whites suffered back-to-back defeats on the road at Blackpool and Wigan, missing a chance to climb into the automatic promotion spots.

Ian Evatt’s side remain level on points with Derby with a game in hand heading into the business end of the campaign.

Team news

Carlos Mendes Gomes is set to be out for “six to nine months” after suffering a ruptured Achilles against Wigan. The former Luton man left the field on a stretcher after pulling up off the ball.

Nathan Baxter has had a cast removed from his wrist but remains sidelined. The Bolton goalkeeper is set to be reviewed in a couple of weeks.

Dion Charles is closing in on a return but Saturday’s fixture might come too soon for the Northern Ireland international.

Randell Williams could return to the squad, while Caleb Taylor, Dan Nlundulu and George Johnston are all unavailable.

Opposition lowdown

Barry Corr took interim charge at Cambridge following Neil Harris’ departure to join Championship outfit Millwall.

The U’s were beaten 1-0 by Stevenage on Tuesday night, with Jordan Roberts getting the decisive goal 10 minutes before the break.

Cambridge find themselves 16th in the League One table – five points above the drop zone at this stage.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced the U’s 20 times in their history, with a record of eight wins, eight draws and four defats.

Bolton ran out 2-1 winners at the Abbey Stadium a couple of weeks ago thanks to second-half strikes from Paris Maghoma and Mendes Gomes.

The points were shared when the sides last met at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in April 2023, with Declan John’s opener cancelled out by Sam Smith at the death.
