Wanderers’ B Team were beaten 6-1 by a strong and experienced Salford City side in the Central League.
The young Whites went in level at the break after a lovely finish from Conor Lewis, but the hosts’ quality proved too much in the second half.
Matty Lund, Adrian Mariappa, Callum Morton, Kevin Berkoe and Kelly N’Mai were among the Salford starters.
The hosts started brightly and could have taken an early lead when Mariappa headed wide at the far post. Jack Flint then made a smart save to keep out a low drive from outside the penalty area.
The opener came when N’Mai’s drilled cross from the left took an unfortunate deflection off a defender and crept in at the near post.
Flint then made a couple of good stops to deny Dan Chesters and Berkoe as Salford looked to double their lead.
Wanderers got back on level terms when Lewis raced in behind the backline and kept his cool to lift the ball over Joel Torrance.
The youngster had another chance minutes later after combining with Trevon Bryan, but this time he was denied by the legs of Torrance.
Chesters went close for the hosts after a well worked counter attack and Morton also saw a strike saved by Flint on the stroke of half time.
Salford picked up where they left off after the break and regained the lead when Morton was slipped in and provided a clinical finish.
The former Fleetwood midfielder doubled his tally moments later, rifling after he was teed up by N’Mai.
Lewis threatened to pull one back after some good work by substitute David Abimbola but Torrance made a decent stop to his right.
A couple more goals came in quick succession to take the game away from the young Whites. First, a corner appeared to go straight in despite appeals for a foul on Flint.
Then, Bolton were punished after losing the ball in a dangerous area while trying to build from the back. Kyrell Malcolm applied the finishing touch.
Flint made a fine save from close range in stoppage time, but the Bolton goalkeeper wasn’t able to prevent the sixth goal which came from Djavan Pedro's towering header.
Flint, Hogan, Trialist, Hayes-Green, Matheson, Tweedley, Sharples-Ahmed, Oliver, Lewis, Lockett, Lewis, Bryan. Subs: Tutte, Loureiro. Lawrence, Toole, Abimbola.
