Matt Bloomfield felt his Wycombe side went "toe-to-toe" with "a very good opponent" during their 2-1 defeat at Wanderers.
Gethin Jones and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson were both on target for the Whites, while Luke Leahy pulled one back from the penalty spot at the death.
Joel Coleman made several good stops during the opening 45 minutes, and Bloomfield admitted his side lacked a clinical touch in the final third.
“I think we created some real good chances,” he said. “To come away from home, against a very good opponent, I think Ian has done a great job here and put a strong squad together.
“You see with how many changes they can make and still be as strong as they are. But I am proud of the performance that we put in.
“I felt like we came to go toe-to-toe, and I think we did that. We just lacked that last little touch, cutting edge, in the top third of the pitch.
“We are obviously really frustrated not to take anything away from the game.”
The opener came from a corner, with Jones producing a superb header from Nat Ogbeta’s looping cross.
“I don’t want to keep using the word frustration because I don’t think we should be negative on a night when we have played the way we have,” Bloomfield continued.
“But of course, it is disappointing to give away a goal from a set-piece – it always is.
“The second goal gets brought back for a free kick. When all those little decisions keep going against you in the second half, it changes the momentum but I am proud of the way the boys kept going.
“We got a goal that we worked hard for. There were little moments that have ended up with us losing the game but in terms of the performance, I think we should be pleased.”
