Nine Lostockers enjoyed good runs at the Bolton United harriers 5k - the first race on the club’s road/trail club championships and the first in the Central Lancs Grand Prix.

Starting and finishing on the track at Leverhulme Park, the race is two laps, taking 308 runners out of the park on to Long Lane and then back into the park off Blenheim Road.

Lostock had a fantastic race, with road captain, Gareth Pratt, crossing the finish line first in 22mins 14secs, closely followed by Chris Baker, in 23:10, who was racing for the first time as a club member.

The first female to cross the finish line was Johanna McManus in a speedy 23:17. She was followed by Paul Lacey (23:28), Rachel Hancock (24:29), Martin Smith (26:08), Rachel Stevens (26:31) and Stephen Hancock, in 29.50.

The performance of the day went to Gill Caldwell, who ran a tremendous 31:06 and won her age category of FV70.

Prizegiving afterwards in the sports hall was done by Bolton running legend and Great North Run winner of 1985, Steve Kenyon.

Following the race, the presentation for the 2023 Central Lancashire Grand Prix took place.

Lostock AC members Rachel Hancock and Tony Maxwell were awarded their trophies for winning their age categories.

Elsewhere, Janet Rhodes completed the Anglezarke Amble - an epic event organised by West Lancashire Long Distance Walking Association.

It is open to both runners and walkers and the route taken by Rhodes covered 16.5 miles and more than 2,500 feet of elevation gain.

The event starts close to Rivington Tea Rooms and participants summit Rivington Pike, Brown Hill and Winter Hill, then travel to Belmont, turning left up to Kitchen Croft Plantation.

It is then another left turn toward White Coppice and then participants follow along the Anglezarke Reservoir back to the beginning.

Rhodes had a fantastic run, completing the amble in 3:19:00.

Parkrun results: Bolton - Rachel Hancock 27:41 (first in her age category); Haigh Woodland Park - Gareth Pratt 29:49; Hilly Fields Parkrun - Markus Checkley 31:49.
