IAN Evatt had new signing Aaron Collins down as a player he would most likely have to recruit in the Championship.
The Wanderers boss is excited to add the former Bristol Rovers man to his squad for the automatic promotion push, having paid a reported £750,000 to get the deal done on deadline day.
Unconcerned with the price tag, Evatt believes he has brought in a player who could comfortably handle playing at a higher level.
“There is always pressure here, that’s what thing I have learned,” he said.
“It is the most money since I have been in charge, but to me it doesn’t feel like a lot because I know what he is capable of doing and what he brings to the table.
“He is going to be additive to the striker group we already have.
“We were thinking ‘if’ and it still is a big ‘if’ we got to the Championship, then he is the sort of players we want to try and target. We think he is capable of playing at that level.
“We spoke to the board and it was a case of if he can help us now, then let’s do it now. Let’s get it done.”
Evatt also believes the club has pulled off a coup in landing West Brom defender Caleb Taylor on loan.
Chased by a number of clubs, including local rivals Blackburn Rovers, the centre-back had plenty of options in January.
Taylor will initially cover for the injured Ricardo Santos but is likely to play a big part in the remaining 19 games, added the Bolton boss.
“With Rico missing we had to act,” he said. “But I was looking this morning and when everyone is fit and available it is a pretty deep squad now.
“We always look for a certain type of player. They have to have a certain level of athleticism.
“We felt like if for whatever reason we lost Rico and Eoin, the one position we didn’t have would be the middle one in the back three. We wanted someone who could do that role, and perhaps the other two as well.
“Caleb does that. He can play the ball and he can move.
“West Brom have been fending off seven-figure bids in this window. I also know there have been Championship clubs trying to loan him and big SPL clubs trying to loan him, but we persuaded him to come to us, which is great.”
