WANDERERS (3-5-2).
JOEL COLEMAN…7.
Very nearly the hero of the hour in the penalty shootout, getting a good hand to Dembele’s effort and saving two more. Proved his worth this season.
EOIN TOAL…7.
Considering he was playing with an Achillies issue, this was a pretty sterling performance. Unlucky not to score and won near enough all his battles.
RICARDO SANTOS…6.5.
Went back to the dressing room early and apparently had a calf issue, Santos cruised through the first half and looked impressive. His injury puts a different perspective on things.
JACK IREDALE…6.
Had quite a strong first half but seemed to struggle more as the game wore on, nearly giving a goal away in the second half after letting a long clearance bounce.
CALVIN RAMSAY…6.5.
A few flashes of excitement and a player who is clearly happy in possession, Wanderers will have to be patient before he can handle the full 90.
GEORGE THOMASON…6.5.
Not entirely on his game, especially in possession, but had the sort of derby fire and spark that was needed. And stepped up to score his penalty like a boss.
CARLOS MENDES GOMES…6.
Looked game in the first half and his movement was causing problems to Blackpool but shackled when moving to wing-back, necessity or not.
AARON MORLEY…5.
Kudos for stepping up and scoring his penalty in the shootout but this wasn’t a display that Morley will be pleased to call his own. So much better on the ball than he showed here.
NAT OGBETA…6.
Looks willing to take responsibility, even if he dwelled in possession a little too long at times. Lots of energy and when he is 100 per cent fit, can be an asset.
JON DADI BODVARSSON…6.5.
Ran himself into the floor with precious little to show for it in the end. Really effective in the first half, less so the second, but clearly up for the fight.
CAMERON JEROME…5.5.
Had he scored in the third minute the night would have been entirely different. Jerome kept going and too the fight to Blackpool but has to take those chances.
Subs: Ashworth 6, 61 (for Ogbeta) – Had the balls to take the penalty. No blame.
Dempsey 7, 61 (for Ramsay) – Major influence in the latter stages.
Charles 75 (for Jerome).
Not used: Baxter, Sheehan, Adeboyejo.
Blackpool: O’Donnell, Pennington, Casey, Connolly, Lawrence-Gabriel, Norburn, Virtue, Lyons, Carey, Dembele, Lavery.
Subs: Kouassi 68 (for Lavery), Hamilton 68 (for Carey) Not used: Grimshaw, Husband, Oakley-Boothe, Miles, Moore.
MAN OF THE MATCH – Eoin Toal.
Edged out Coleman and Dempsey because of a few classy moments of first half defending which took on a different light when you consider he is carrying an injury.
MOAN OF THE MATCH – Those missed chances, especially in the first half, have cost Bolton dear.
Jerome’s early effort in particular should have hit the back of the net.
MAGIC MOMENT – Within 30 seconds of the final whistle, Wanderers’ fans had forgotten all about the trophy and were looking at the league. Long may that continue.
Referee: Sebastian Stocksbridge 5/10 – Some strange decision making, to say the least.
Attendance: 5,649.
