Dean Holdsworth has been appointed the new technical director at National League club Kidderminster Harriers.

Harriers were promoted to the top tier of the non-league pyramid last season and currently sit 23rd in the table, having won four league games since the start of the campaign.

Holdsworth will now work closely with the first-team management staff to help achieve their short and long-term goals.

He will also oversee the development of young prospects at Academy level and help implement the club’s philosophy.

“I am honoured to become a part of the Kidderminster Harriers family and work alongside the chairman and management team,” said the former Wanderers man.

“The club has great potential both on and off the pitch to succeed in becoming a Football League club in years to come.”

Holdsworth’s most recent role in the game was a stint in the dugout at Stratford Town but he was forced to step down after several months due to growing business commitments.

Chairman Richard Lane added: “His exceptional experience as a player and manager will help guide Kidderminster Harriers in years to come to become sustainable off the pitch and achieve its goals on the pitch.

“As well as supporting Russ Penn, Jim O’Connor and the first team staff, he will help ensure our philosophy is clearly defined, established and maintained in all areas of the Kidderminster Harriers family, which will enable us to continue producing and developing and nurturing talent for many years to come.”

Holdsworth boasts Premier League experience from his playing days, having spent six seasons at Bolton. He also spearheaded the Sports Shield consortium looking to buy the club from Eddie Davies in 2016.

“With the short-term success we’ve had at Kidderminster Harriers over the last three years, we have to learn and grow with the times, and I believe adding to what we have at the club is a sign of our objectives moving forward,” said manager Russ Penn.

“Dean will be a great support to all corners of the football club with his knowledge and experience, and we look forward to working with him.”

Harriers are back in league action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Southend to the Aggborough Stadium.
