WANDERERS have secured young guns Luke Matheson and Conor Carty to extended contracts at the Toughsheet Stadium.
It has been confirmed that the talented 21-year-old pair have signed new contracts which tie them to the club until 2025.
Wing-back Matheson signed for Wanderers on a free transfer after leaving Premier League Wolves in the summer and made his first team debut in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy against Salford City.
He scored a first senior goal for the club in the 8-1 hammering of Manchester United’s Under-21s in the same competition and has made four appearances in all.
Carty moved on loan to Irish Premier League side St Patrick’s last January and proved a success, scoring five times in 36 games and helping the club to victory against Bohemians in the FAI Cup final, played in front of more than 40,000 people at the Aviva Stadium.
As a result of his time in Ireland, Wanderers are unable to play him until the next international window in January. But now that his contract is secured, the club are now looking at other loan options for the second half of this season which would help him further his development.
The former Wolves striker scored on his Bolton debut in the Papa Johns Trophy at the start of last season, salvaging a draw in the group stages against Tranmere Rovers.
He also spent time on loan with Oldham Athletic and Gateshead and has earned Under-21 recognition with the Republic of Ireland.
Ian Evatt has been pleased with how both players have developed through the B Team structure to the stage where they are knocking on the door of his senior squad.
He believes with the added security of a longer deal that Matheson and Carty can continue pushing for a place in his plans.
He said: “They have both impressed since joining the club.
“Conor went out and had a very successful loan in Ireland. Luke has been involved with us and always impressed when he's played, so it's great that we can tie them down to longer contracts and look to the future and for them to progress even more.
“This is where we want to get to with the B Team. We want to start developing players that are ready for our first team and those two are the closest really.
“We will probably look to get another loan for Conor to help him keeping improving and increasing his education, probably at a higher level. With Luke, we'll make a decision on that when we get to January, but I'm pleased for them both and it's well deserved.”
Wanderers welcome Leyton Orient to the Toughsheet Stadium this weekend and have reduced tickets to £10 for adults and £5 for concessions as part of the second Community Day of the season.
The previous one coincided with the visit of Peterborough United in mid-August and ended 1-1 after Gethin Jones had been sent off in the first half.
