THERE are no guarantees for trialists – even if you are related to football royalty at Bolton Wanderers – but Georg Gudjohnsen-Mitchell has all the tools to be a success, according to a man who knows him well.
Windsor FC owner Kevin Stott has worked with the Icelandic teenager since the start of the season and has backed him to make a good impression during a 10-day stay with the Bolton B Team.
Nephew to the great Eidur Gudjohnsen, the 19-year-old has been playing in the Combined Counties League after spending time in the United Select Academy, with whom Windsor have forged a partnership.
Mr Stott, who helped found the club in 2011 following the demise of Windsor & Eton FC, was amazed when he found out the family connection.
“I asked him, rather tongue-in-cheek, whether he was any relation,” he told The Bolton News. “And when he confirmed it, it was a case of ‘really?’ Wow!
“I’m always encouraging him to talk to his uncle and pick up a few tips. Anyone who played for Barcelona and Chelsea, winning all the trophies and medals he did, must have a few things to pass on.
“He is an intelligent young man who has done very well for us.
Good luck to Georg Guðjohnsen-Mitchell who starts his trial with @OfficialBWFC this week 👏

“You clearly need an element of luck to be a success in football, the odds are not in your favour. By the age of 22-23 the chances of you making it professionally go down exponentially, I suppose, but if you stop trying, you are certain to fail.
"I find, though, that for someone so young he is emotionally very mature, he makes good decisions, and when all that adds up to your footballing ability then good things can happen, you can succeed.”
Gudjohnsen-Mitchell is not under contract with Windsor, although if he is successful in a trial at Bolton training fees may be owed.
Mr Stott maintains there is no financial motivation in the club willing their young protegee to do well in the North West.
“What matters to me is that he succeeds,” he added. “One thing we are able to do at our club is offer opportunities and I am delighted that he has this chance with Bolton. We all wish him luck.”
