Wanderers face a trip to Kenilworth Road in the FA Cup third round after they were drawn against Premier League Luton Town.
Ian Evatt’s men beat Harrogate 5-1 in the second round, with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson scoring a first-half hat trick and Dan Nlundulu adding a couple more after the break.
Luton won the Championship play-offs last term and are currently 17th in the top flight, having won two of their opening 14 matches.
Bolton haven’t faced the Hatters in a competitive fixture since January 1997 when the Whites ran out 6-2 winners.
The draw was carried out live on ITV1 by former Everton star Trevor Steven and Arsenal defender Jen Beattie. Third-round fixtures are scheduled to be played on the weekend of Saturday, January 6.
