Exeter boss Gary Caldwell knows Saturday’s clash with Wanderers will be tough – but insists they are looking to win the game.
The Grecians have gone eight games without a victory in League One and currently sit 20th in the table, a point above the drop zone.
Earlier this week, the club issued an official statement giving Caldwell their backing despite a tough start to the campaign.
“It is going to be a really difficult game, but it’s a game I think we should look forward to,” said the manager.
“It is why we want to be at this level – playing big teams, a big stadium and there will probably be 20,000-plus there. We have to be prepared for a really difficult game, but we have to be prepared to win as well.
“We will give the players all the information they need and we will work on how we can go there and win the game.
“It is then about going and doing it. We have seen in training, the quality and work ethic is there but it is about how we transfer that onto a matchday and make it count with three points.
The Whites head into the fixture knowing they could make it eight successive victories in all competitions.
“Thinking back to Sheffield Wednesday last year. Even though we lost the game, we played a very good game that day,” Caldwell continued.
“We understood how you win away from home at a big stadium - about quietening the crowd and even turning the crowd onto the home team.
“We need to use those experiences and understand how you win a big game away from home. It is not easy but there are ways to go about it.
“A big crowd that is in a positive frame of mind, we can try and turn that against the team and use it to our advantage.”
Exeter returned to winning ways in the EFL Trophy in midweek, beating Swindon 1-0 thanks to former Bolton man Yanic Wildschut’s goal.
“When you are on a difficult run, you take small steps to improve that,” Caldwell stated.
“Tuesday was a step forward in that regard, but now the league is the most important and there are bigger steps we have to make.
“The players are in good spirits, they are recovering well. We will prepare to drive up and be ready for a big challenge.”
