Dion Charles admits former Bolton team-mate Conor Bradley has been “a big miss” for Northern Ireland this season.
Bradley, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Whites last season, had become a regular on the international stage at just 20 years of age.
However, the wing-back saw his progress halted by an untimely back issue which has kept him out of action over the past few months.
Bradley had been training with the first-team squad at Liverpool prior to the injury but will not be involved against Finland and Denmark over the coming days.
Charles can’t wait to share the pitch with the youngster once again and believes he has what it takes to get game time at Anfield when he returns to full fitness.
“Conor is incredible, Conor can go as far as he wants,” the Wanderers striker told The Belfast Telegraph.
“That kid has everything, intelligence, and is such a good player but his biggest strength is his mentality. He wants to learn, he wants to get better.
“When he’s back fit, it will be interesting to see not if but when he gets into the Liverpool team and I’m backing him to do that.”
Michael O’Neill’s side currently sit fifth in Group H, with their only victories so far coming against bottom-ranked San Marino, and can no longer qualify for next summer’s tournament in Germany.
“When Conor first came to Bolton he hadn’t played much senior football, and he played like a 30-year-old with experience,” Charles continued.
“At Bolton, when Conor was on the ball you felt like he was going to do something. It was great to have a player like that in the team.
“He’s been a big miss for Northern Ireland in this campaign. He’d be a big miss for any side, the type of player he is.”
Charles has had a prolific start to the campaign, scoring 11 times in 18 appearances in all competitions for Wanderers.
The 28-year-old scored his first international goals earlier this year, bagging a brace against San Marino.
Eoin Toal will also be hoping to get some minutes on the pitch after making his senior debut against Slovenia last month.
