WANDERERS (3-5-2).
NATHAN BAXTER…7.
Made a fine save from Potts in the first half and did his level best to stop the second goal from happening. A very decent night’s work.
RICARDO SANTOS…8.
Looked imperious in the first 45 minutes, 10/10 territory. Did concede a few chances after the break but can still be very pleased with his performance.
EOIN TOAL…8.
Might not score a better header in the rest of his career. Superb finish, which came just a few minutes after he was skipping down the left wing. Excellent stuff.
WILL FORRESTER…8.
Back in the side and showing what a really promising defensive talent Bolton have on their hands. No nonsense, and that challenge on half time was [chef’s kiss].
GETHIN JONES…7.
Moved to wing-back for some extra defensive grit and while he was pinned back after the break, the decision paid off. Stuck to his task.
PARIS MAGHOMA…7.
The stand-out player in the first 30 minutes and though Bolton’s possession game waned a bit – cutting him out of the game – it shows what he can bring.
JOSH SHEEHAN…8.5.
Produced a superb ball for Thomason’s goal and wrestled control of the game in the latter stages, making it a football match again. In great form.
GEORGE THOMASON…7.5.
We’re seeing a different George Thomason of late, one trying to master the attacking arts and turn himself into a genuine all-rounder. Fine finish for the second suggests he’ll succeed.
JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…7.
Made some good inroads early on, and proved he can be effective on the left as well as the right.
VICTOR ADEBOYEJO…6.
Had to work hard against some physical defenders but kept the ball as well as most on the park. Not a night he will have enjoyed – but did his bit.
DION CHARLES…6.
A night of chasing for the main part. A couple of half-chances from the edge of the box but did a job for the team more than anything else.
Subs: Morley 7, 66 (for Maghoma) – Scored from the spot and added some calmness.
Jerome 82 (for Adeboyejo), Nlundulu 82 (for Charles).
Not used: Coleman, Iredale, Bodvarsson, Williams, Jerome.
Tactics 7/10 – The defensive shake-up caused a few raised eyebrows before kick-off, with Jones pushed to the right and Dacres-Cogley on the left. It was a bold move that paid off. Just!
Wycombe (3-4-3): Stryjek; Keogh, Low, Leahy; Pattenden, Scowen, Potts, Boyes; Hanlan, Phillips, Taylor.
Subs: Wheeler 68 (for Pattenden), McCleary 68 (for Hanlan), Sadlier 70 (for Scowen), Vokes 80 (for Taylor) Not used: Ravizzoli, Tafazolli, Breckin.
Referee: Leigh Doughty 6/10 – Felt like Bolton were getting the thin end of the wedge on decisions in the second half. One free kick given against Dion Charles for a foul on Joe Low seemed to have been granted on his scream alone. No major issues, though.
Attendance: 4,935 (750)
