Matt Bloomfield says his Wycombe side are “bitterly disappointed” following their 4-2 defeat against Wanderers at Adams Park.
The Whites seized control in the first half thanks to goals from Paris Maghoma and George Thomason, but the hosts hit back after the break through Luke Leahy and David Wheeler.
Ian Evatt’s men showed character to regain the lead when Eoin Toal headed home Josh Sheehan’s corner, and Aaron Morley wrapped up the result from the penalty spot after Cameron Jerome had been tripped in the box.
Bloomfield admits the late “sucker punch” was tough to take after working hard to get back in the contest.
“We’re disappointed for the way the first half went but when we got the first goal from Luke, and what a goal it was, we were right back in it,” he said.
“We were in the ascendancy, we were in their half and we were good value for a point. We’re bitterly disappointed not to get anything from the game.
“We got them pressed and were able to play the way we wanted to play as we created shots, had attacks and tested their keeper, but it wasn’t to be this evening.
“Bolton’s third goal came so soon after we equalised so it could be a mentality thing. It happened so quickly.
“The crowd were brilliant when we got it back to 2-2 as they were right behind us. At that point, the boys were looking to find the winner but unfortunately we were sucker-punched on two occasions.”
Goalkeeper Max Stryjek was at fault for the opener, allowing Maghoma's strike to trickle over the line.
"He’s a strong character and he’s been like that since he’s been with us,” Bloomfield added.
"He’s always performed at the top level in the year-and-a-bit since he’s been here and he’ll be fine."
The result sees Wanderers move within two points of second-place Oxford after Liam Manning's side were beaten 2-0 by Wigan. Meanwhile, Wycombe slip to 10th after their first home defeat since August.
