Former Wanderers loanee Jack Wilshere has reportedly held talks with MLS club Colorado Rapids over becoming their new head coach.

Wilshere decided to hang up his boots in the summer of 2022 after dealing with a series of injuries and has since been coaching Arsenal’s Under-18 side.

The Rapids, who are owned by the same group as Arsenal, are searching for a new boss after parting ways with Robin Fraser last month. Edinburgh-born Chris Little has led the squad on an interim basis in recent weeks.

The club made a formal approach to the Gunners to speak with Wilshere, according to a report by The Athletic. He is said to have mad a positive impression in his interview.

The Rapids find themselves bottom of the Western Conference, having won just five league games this season.

Wilshere joined the Whites on loan from the Gunners in 2010 and quickly became a popular figure among supporters during his time in the North West.

He went on to make 197 appearances for Arsenal, winning the FA Cup twice, and was also capped 34 times by England on the international stage.

The 31-year-old later had spells at West Ham and Bournemouth, also heading overseas with Danish outfit Aarhus before calling time on his playing career.

Speaking last year about his coaching role at Arsenal, Wilshere said: “It's a huge honour to have this role. It’s no secret that I love this club.

“I love what we stand for and a big part of my life was spent in this academy, some of the best days of my life.”

He continued: “I want to help these young players thrive and be the best they can be on and off the pitch.”
